NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. Rebecca Turk, education and events manager for Moore Farms Botanical Gardens in Lake City, South Carolina, will present “Moore Farms Botanical Garden: A Germinating Success from Concept and Collections to Programs.”
SFA hosts 14 exchange students
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of International Programs is hosting 14 exchange students from six different locations this semester.
“This has been one of the most diverse groups of foreign exchange students the university has hosted,” Heather Catton, SFA director of international programs, said.
The group comprises two students from Pakistan, two from Tunisia, five from France, three from the United Kingdom, one from Taiwan and one from Malta. Eleven of the students are undergraduates while three are graduate students.
Cellist Ruževic to perform at SFA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Renowned cellist Nikola Nino Ruževic will present a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
Ruževic, who is associate professor of cello and chamber music and the coordinator of chamber music studies at the University of North Texas, will perform with his wife, pianist Lara Ruževic.
SFA colts place at world championship
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University equine program successfully exhibited two weanling colts from the university’s breeding program at the 2017 American Paint Horse Association World Championship Show held in Fort Worth.
Make Me Move, a solid paint-bred colt, was named Reserve Breeder’s Trust Futurity Champion and placed sixth in the solid paint-bred Weanling Stallions Class, while Remember the Name, also a solid paint-bred colt, placed fifth in the same class.

SFA students intern with NFL and Women’s NBA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Being on the sidelines never looked so good.
During the summer, three graduate students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s athletic training program interned as athletic trainers with the NFL and Women’s NBA.
Cody Oliver, Lufkin native, spent seven weeks working with the Houston Texans, and Chris Elliott of Nashville, Tennessee, served the Tennessee Titans. Sara Caitlin Godwin from Auburn, Alabama, interned with the New York Liberty Women’s NBA team.
SFA’s Jacks Council on Family Relations accepting donations for Thanksgiving Homebound project
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Members of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Jacks Council on Family Relations are gearing up for their annual food drive, Thanksgiving Homebound.
Since 2011, JCFR has participated in this project to help area families during the holidays. Each year, the number of families they serve increases. Last year, members delivered food to more than 100 families. Jaycie Case, JCFR president, said their goal this year is to feed 200 families.
Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band to perform Daugherty’s award-winning music
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform a concert featuring the music of Grammy Award-winning composer Michael Daugherty at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.
Certain selections on the program are dedicated in memory of Caleb Gibbs, SFA freshman music major who died earlier this semester.
fLOW Quartet to perform at SFA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Dallas-Fort Worth area-based fLOW Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the Music Recital Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University as part of the SFA School of Music’s Octubafest celebration.
Octubafest is an event that occurs at many universities around the world. The observance is designed to highlight the tuba and euphonium for their solo and chamber repertoire, according to Dr. J.D. Salas, associate professor of tuba and euphonium studies at SFA.
SFA kinesiology students, athletics department partner for ‘Be The Match’ marrow donor drive
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in entry-level kinesiology courses partnered with SFA’s athletics department and student-athletes to host a Be The Match National Marrow Donor Program community drive on the university campus.
Approximately 100 SFA students in courses taught by Patty Berthot, SFA lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, and many student-athletes worked to promote the drive and encourage others to become bone marrow donors.
