Regardless of whether or not your major is within our department, there are a variety of opportunities to get involved.

Economics Reading Group (open to everyone!)

Named student organization of the year in 2019, the Economics Reading Group is focused on discussing popular books about economics and learning to think like an economist.

This group is open to all SFA students, faculty and staff members, as well as members of the Nacogdoches community! Meetings to discuss assigned economics-related readings are four times a semester and offer students an opportunity to interact with faculty members in an informal setting.

Past literature discussed has included:

  • Free to Choose by Milton and Rose Friedman
  • The Wisdom of Crowds by James Surowiecki
  • Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt.

The group also has a scholarship program, where students can earn one of two $1,000 scholarships each year.
