Dr. Rebecca Davis
Dr. Rebecca Davis received her Bachelor of Science in economics from West Virginia Wesleyan College and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Tennessee. Before joining the SFA faculty in 2018, Davis served as the pre-doctoral fellow on energy economics for the National Bureau of Economic Research and has conducted several reports on topics such as coal mining and tourism, electricity generation and fracking. Her research interests include energy economics, market structure, risk and uncertainty, real options analysis and public policy.
Dr. Emiliano Giudici
Dr. Emiliano Giudici received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas Pan American. As an educator, he is interested in investments, financial mathematics and econometrics. His research interests include market microstructure and frequency domain econometrics.
Dr. Kyle Jones
Dr. Kyle Jones received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgia Southwestern College and his doctoral degree in finance from the University of Mississippi. His teaching interests include international finance and corporate and managerial finance.
David Kaiser
Having worked as a community banker for more than 30 years, David Kaiser brings a wealth of knowledge and experience into the classroom as the director of SFA’s Chadwick Banking Program.
During his career, he has been a lender, manager, auditor, executive officer and bank director. Kaiser received his Bachelor of Science in business administration from California State University and his Master of Business Administration from Western Washington University. He also is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington.
Dr. Stephen Kosovich
Dr. Stephen Kosovich received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Willamette University and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Oregon. His past research has measured the impact of job losses in terms of earning losses and the savings decisions of laid-off workers. Currently, his research interests include finding additional measures of the impact of job losses. In teaching sports economics, Kosovich has developed an interest in understanding a variety of economic issues in sports.
Dr. Mikhail Kouliavtsev
Dr. Mikhail Kouliavtsev received his bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from Lyon College and master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Temple University. Prior to joining the faculty at SFA in 2007, Kouliavtsev held an appointment at Philadelphia University. His research interests include industrial organization, antitrust policy, international trade and economics of education.
Dr. Beverly Mendoza
Dr. Beverly Mendoza received her bachelor’s degree in international economics from Texas Tech University and her master’s and doctoral degree in economics from Indiana University. Her research interests include international trade, applied microeconomics and development.
Dr. Ryan Phelps
Since joining the SFA faculty in 2007, Dr. Ryan Phelps has helped create the Economics Reading Group to bring students and faculty interested in economic literature together to discuss current economic topics. Phelps received his bachelor’s degree in business management from Pensacola Christian College and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Kentucky. His research interests include health-related policy outcomes, economic education, and the causes and effects of smoking bans in the hospitality sector.
Dr. Mark Scanlan
Dr. Mark Scanlan received his bachelor’s degree from Lyon College and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Florida. At SFA, Scanlan teaches a variety of courses, including principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, money and banking, public finance, and international economics. He has been interviewed for and quoted in numerous articles about topics ranging from online sales tax and personal finance to unsecured credit. His research interests include ecommerce, sales and use taxation, the digital divide, and public finance.
Dr. Mark Schaub
With more than 90 published articles in academic and practitioner journals in the past 16 years, Dr. Mark Schaub continues to stay up to date with the financial industry. Schaub received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Nicholls State University in Louisiana and his doctoral degree from Mississippi State University. While he has served the education system for decades, Schaub joined the SFA faculty in 2013.
Dr. Mark Simmons
Dr. Mark Simmons received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Sam Houston State University and his doctoral degree from Texas A&M University. During his career, Simmons has worked as a capital budgeting analyst and stockbroker. He also is a certified public accountant. In 1987, he joined the SFA faculty after teaching at two Texas universities. His has written journal articles and book reviews.
Dr. Todd Brown
Prior to his current position as a professor of finance, Dr. Todd Brown served in a variety of administrative roles in the Rusche College of Business, including associate dean, chair of the Department of Economics and Finance, and director of the Mast Student Investment Roundtable. Over the course of his career in finance, Brown has published numerous times and has presented at conferences. He received his bachelor’s in finance from Kansas State University and both an MS in actuarial science and a PhD in finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Brown is a past president of the Nacogdoches Booster Club and serves on the boards of the Nacogdoches County Historical Foundation, Nacogdoches Rotary Club, Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and Nacogdoches Medical Center.
Dr. Tim Bisping
Dr. Tim Bisping received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Wichita State University and his doctoral degree in economics from Oklahoma State University. He joined SFA in 2015 as dean of the Rusche College of Business and continues to serve in this role. Bisping’s specialties are labor economics and industrial organization.
Dr. Wenqing Gao
Dr. Wenqing Gao received her bachelor’s degree in finance from South China Normal University in Guangzhou, China and her master’s degree in quantitative finance from University at Buffalo, and her doctoral degree in finance from Mississippi State University. Her research interests include banking and financial institutions, and international finance.
Dr. Hannah Wich
Dr. Hannah Wich received her bachelor's degree from the University of South Dakota and her doctoral degree from Iowa State University.
Her work focuses on consumer food choice decisions and ways to alleviate food insecurity. Wich's research interests include public economics, health economics and applied microeconomics.
Dr. Matthew Jaramillo
Dr. Matthew Jaramillo received his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration from Midwestern State University. He earned his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in personal financial planning from Texas Tech University.
Jaramillo teaches courses related to personal financial planning and is serves as the director for the Marleta Chadwick Student Financial Advisors.
