    Students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s educator preparation program were selected to attend the Lumberjack Teachers for Texas advocacy event April 1 and 2. Accompanied by Dr. Jannah Nerren, chair of the Department of Education Studies, and Dr. Christina Sinclair, associate dean of the James I. Perkins College of Education, students engaged in advocacy at the state level, met with state legislators, experienced networking opportunities and toured the Texas State Capitol and the offices of Raise Your Hand Texas, an education advocacy organization. They engaged in planning and training sessions to prepare for advocacy meetings, where they discussed legislation pertaining to educational issues. This event was sponsored by the Department of Education Studies and supported by Raise Your Hand Texas.     Dr. Jordan M. Barkley

    Stephen F. Austin State University announces the appointment of Dr. Jordan M. Barkley as the institution’s new provost and executive vice president for the Division of Academic Affairs. He offers nearly two decades of administrative experience at institutions including the University of Northern Colorado, Tarleton State University and Jacksonville State University.

    Katie Courmier

    Katie Courmier, a Mauriceville native and senior anthropology major in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Anthropology, Geography and Sociology, recently was awarded the Critical Language Scholarship Spark award, which funds the cost of intensive language training. With a strong passion for Asian studies, Courmier will use this opportunity to study Chinese.
