NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University recently launched Faculty Showcase, a comprehensive platform designed to celebrate the groundbreaking research, teaching and professional achievements of its faculty members.
Officially launched Nov. 11, Faculty Showcase consolidates information about faculty research interests, publications, curriculum vitae and teaching activities into one accessible location, providing a robust resource for collaboration and inspiration.
“Faculty Showcase allows the faculty member to promote their research interests, publications and teaching,” said Phil Reynolds, scholarly communications librarian. “Not only does it allow a faculty member to showcase their own work, but it also gives students and researchers an overview of the types of research being done at SFA.”
The database currently features profiles for 539 faculty members across various disciplines, with 15 faculty members already actively curating their profiles just one week after the platform’s launch. This platform not only promotes individual achievements but also provides students, researchers and the global academic community with a clear overview of the innovative work being conducted at SFA.
“Faculty Showcase represents a milestone in how we celebrate and disseminate the intellectual and creative contributions of our faculty,” said Jonathan Helmke, Steen Library director. “It serves as a bridge between researchers, students and the wider community, fostering collaboration and enhancing the visibility of the exceptional work being done here at SFA.”
Through this platform, SFA offers a vital tool for faculty members to showcase their work and inspire future research and learning. It aligns with SFA’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation.
Additionally, Faculty Showcase complements SFA’s existing ScholarWorks platform, which has archived the university’s intellectual output since 2012. With over 12,000 documents and more than 2.6 million downloads worldwide, ScholarWorks provides free access to academic and creative work, breaking down barriers for students and researchers across the globe.
“In many countries, libraries and individuals cannot afford the thousands of dollars charged by publishers,” Reynolds said. “ScholarWorks provides free articles to these students and researchers across the globe.”
Together, Faculty Showcase and ScholarWorks amplify SFA’s contributions to the global academic community by offering free, open access to research and scholarship.
