NACOGDOCHES, Texas — If you put your golf clubs away for the winter, it’s time to bring them back out.
The annual Bob Sitton Classic is scheduled for March 24 at Woodland Hills Golf Club at 359 CR 5021 in Nacogdoches. A fundraiser for SFA golf and the SFA Alumni Association, the event honors Sitton, who helped endow hundreds of scholarships during his time as association director from 1972 to 1998.
The tournament was formerly named the Annual SFA Alumni Homecoming Golf Tournament, which started in 1973. Like last year, participants can compete as individuals, on a team or on a corporate team.
“We named the tournament after Bob for a reason, he bleeds purple,” said Craig Turnage ’00 and ’05, the alumni association’s executive director. “We’re looking forward to another successful year out on the golf course, having fun while we raise funds and honor someone who has done so much for SFA.”
After retirement, Sitton remained a fixture on campus as a part-time employee. He was inducted into the SFA Alumni Hall of Fame in 2015. Sitton also was the first recipient of the SFA Lifetime Achievement Award, among numerous other accolades and achievements.
The Bob Sitton Classic will feature food trucks, a bourbon tasting and a mobile cigar lounge. Participants can register up to the day of the event at SFAAlumni.com/TheBob. For corporate sponsors, the registration deadline is Monday, March 6.
