NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the annual choral and orchestral Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Performing will be the A Cappella Choir, directed by Dr. Tim King, director of choral activities at SFA; Choral Union and Women's Choir, directed by Dr. Tod Fish, visiting assistant professor; and the Orchestra of the Pines, directed by Dr. Gene H. Moon, director of orchestras.

The ensembles will present "Evermore and Evermore," a holiday concert that mirrors a work of the same title, according to King.

"This work was composed by Norman Nelson, father of SFA music faculty's own Dr. Kirsten Nelson (assistant professor of bassoon and theory)," King said. "For many years, Norman was head of the theory department at West Texas A&M in Canyon. This multi-movement work for choir and orchestra is based on familiar carols that are arranged in different dance meters. Between each carol, different performing groups will be featured, adding a great deal of variety to the program."

Familiar carols include "Of the Father's Love Begotten," "What Shall I Give," "Coventry Carol," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Lo How a Rose E're Blooming" and "In Dulci Jubilo (Good Christian Men Rejoice)."

The concert will also feature the ever-popular sing-a-long, King said.

"I have always viewed this concert as our Christmas gift to the community, usually consisting of familiar music for the audience's enjoyment," he said.

Turner Auditorium is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Drive.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3 for students. For tickets or more information, visit www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call the SFA Fine Arts Box Office at (936) 486-6407.
