NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Eric Coble's "Bright Ideas" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.
The full-length play focuses on Genevra and Joshua Bradley, who are waiting to hear if their 3-year-old son will get into the Bright Ideas Early Childhood Development Academy, considered by most to be "the right" preschool, explained Sugarland senior Katrina Tarson, the play's director.
In this dark comedy, often described as "Macbeth-in-preschool," Coble explores to what extremes parents are willing to go for their child. The play is recommended for mature audiences.
Seniors Kyla Williams of Dallas and Lamar Jefferson of Lancaster portray Genevra and Joshua Bradley. Other members of the cast are Houston senior Samantha Walker and sophomores Sarah Wisterman of Houston and Bailey Wier of Nacogdoches.
Previously at SFA Tarson directed "The Love Talker" and "Breaking the Chain" and assistant directed "The Breasts of Tiresias." She served as stage manager for "One for the Road," "A Young Lady of Property" and "The Furies" and assistant stage managed "Almost, Maine."
Tickets are $5 each. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
