NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Sarah Feye of The Woodlands has been appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to serve as student regent for Stephen F. Austin State University during the 2011-12 academic year.

Feye is pursuing a bachelor's degree in food, nutrition and dietetics at SFA. She previously served as vice president of the Student Government Association; president of the Student Dietetic Association; student instructor for SFA 101 - freshman seminar; and vice president of Phi Upsilon Omicron, an honor society for students majoring in human sciences.

"I have been involved in a lot of student leadership activities at SFA, including a wonderful experience serving in the Student Government Association," said Feye, a 2008 graduate of The Woodlands High School. "I was really looking for that next step in my service to the SFA student body, and I was extremely thrilled to learn I had been chosen as student regent."

Feye recently traveled to Austin to receive training for her new role as student regent. Her first official duty will be attending the quarterly meeting of the SFA Board of Regents July 18-19.

"I believe student regents hold a very valuable place on the board because they are the only ones who can actually share the point of view of SFA students," she said. "Anywhere student opinion is needed, I plan to speak up and offer that perspective, so that it can be considered when important decisions are made."
