SFA student group selling handmade bowls and chili

Ashley Currid, president of the SFA Ceramic Club, works on a handmade bowl to be sold during the club's Chili Bowl Fundraiser from 11 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in front of Steen Library on the SFA campus. For $10, patrons receive a bowl filled with chili and a side of cornbread.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Ceramic Club at Stephen F. Austin State University will be selling handmade ceramic bowls filled with chili from 11 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in front of Steen Library. Cost of each bowl of chili, which comes with a side of cornbread, is $10.

The proceeds from the Chili Bowl Fundraiser will help send six ceramics students to the 2010 conference of the National Council on Education for Ceramic Arts to be held in Philadelphia March 31 through April 3.

"This is an important conference for our students to attend," said Kira Enriquez, SFA post graduate fellow in ceramics. "They will be able to broaden their education by learning different techniques and making connections with other ceramicists. They can then share that knowledge with the SFA community."

Enriquez encourages everyone to enjoy the communal experience of food and art. "Please come and choose a handmade bowl to take home for the holidays," she added.

The sale is sponsored in part by Aramark East College Restaurant, Clear Springs and Kroger.
