SFA to stage student-directed 'Wine in the Wilderness'

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Alice Childress' "Wine in the Wilderness" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.

In the one-act that is set in 1964 Harlem, Childress uses comedic and dramatic moments to enable the audience to see how different people view each other, themselves and how love can exist in even the worst situations, explained director Daniel Gambill, Quitman senior. The play is recommended for mature audiences.

Gambill directs the cast comprised of Round Rock junior Waldron Archer, Red Oak junior Jessy Dukes, Lancaster sophomore Lamar Jefferson, Corpus Christi sophomore Kory Pullman and Red Oak sophomore Sharayah Reed.

Previously at SFA Gambill has directed "The Mystery at Twicknam Vicarage" and "Once Upon a Playground." His SFA acting credits include "The Elephant Man," "Driving Miss Daisy," "Crimes of the Heart" and "This Day Forward." He will appear in "Twelfth Night" in November.

The Downstage Theatre is located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.
