NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As a kick off to the Halloween weekend, the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will present a free one-night film screening of the 1961 Canadian horror film "The Mask" at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

The film, which is noted for its surreal 3D cinematography, tells the story of a young scientist, Dr. Allen Barnes, who experiences increasingly disturbing visions whenever he puts on a mysterious ancient tribal mask. The visions begin to alter Barnes' personality and eventually drive him insane.

"We will provide 3D glasses as well as treats for our viewers," said Christian Cutler, SFA director of galleries. "And we encourage patrons to come in costume."

The screening is sponsored in part by SFA's Silent Horror Cinema course, SFA Friends of the Visual Arts and Nacogdoches Junior Forum.
