Axe ’Em, Jacks!
NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– The Stephen F. Austin State University chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management received several awards at the SAM International Business Conference in March in Tallahassee, Florida. Students from SFA’s Nelson Rusche College of Business competed with students from around the world in categories ranging from business pitch and extemporaneous speech to a case competition at the conference.
SFA’s chapter earned first place for Campus Chapter Performance in the large division. The undergraduate team included Josselyn Acosta, president of SFA’s SAM chapter and management senior from Nacogdoches; Jaret Acosta, Josselyn’s brother, executive vice president of SFA’s SAM chapter and management senior from Nacogdoches; Leo Carreon, senior management major from Diboll; and Issac Velasco, first-year banking major from Chireno. The graduate team included Lydia Sattler, business graduate student from Morgan Hill, California, and Zala Ule, business graduate student from Koper, Slovenia.
“This honor is a testament to the dedication and engagement of our SAM members in recruiting new student members and keeping them active throughout the year,” said Dr. Gina Harden, associate professor of management and marketing at SFA and faculty advisor for the group.
In addition, Josselyn Acosta received the National Outstanding Student Award, and Jaret Acosta and Sattler each earned the Outstanding Regional Student Award. Harden also received the Outstanding Advisor Award.
“Hard work and dedication always pay off, but it is the bridges we build within our organization that truly lift us higher,” Josselyn Acosta said. “A heartfelt thank you to all our SAM members for this incredible achievement, which shines a bright light on our chapter.”
