NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Christopher Talbot, director of the School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University, has announced the recipients of SFA and Friends of the Visual Arts scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year. More than $25,000 in scholarships was awarded.

Recipients included:

  • Mason Cullen, Cypress senior, received the Ed and Gwen Cole Memorial Dean’s Award in Art;
  • Skye Davis, Palestine junior, awarded the Brian Philip Joseph LaBarbera Memorial Scholarship and an Art Alliance Scholarship;
  • Caleb Perkins, Nacogdoches junior, awarded the Snyder Family Scholarship, the John and Doris Daniel Art Scholarship and the W.H. and Bennie Atkinson Gray Fine Arts Scholarship;
  • Enrique Vasquez, Culiacán, Mexico, graduate student, awarded the Elise Arscott Art Scholarship;
  • Heather Smith, Keller senior, awarded the Melba Cranford Memorial Art Scholarship and the Jack R. and Claudine W. McKinney Memorial Art Scholarship;
  • Chloe Garrett, Orange junior, awarded the Eloise Chambers Adams Scholarship, the Stephen Weeks Memorial Art Scholarship, the Diane, Court and Casey Fouts Scholarship and the Debbie Simpson/Terry Miller Memorial Scholarship;
  • Sayra Espinosa, Tyler junior, awarded a Regents Scholarship in art;
  • Marco Nunez, Cypress freshman, awarded a Regents Scholarship in art;
  • Sarah Bone, Richmond junior, awarded a Patricia Roberdeau Mast Scholarship;
  • Joshua Mokry, Hockley senior, awarded a Patricia Roberdeau Mast Scholarship;
  • Nika Luu, Wylie junior, awarded the Piero Fenci Scholarship for the Ceramic Arts;
  • Jose Homero Gutierrez, Chihuahua, Mexico, graduate student, awarded the John N. and Margaret Staley Scholarship; and
  • Travis Walthall, Lumberton graduate student, awarded the Paul L. Boynton Graduate School Scholarship.

The Friends of the Visual Arts also sponsors and has awarded the following five scholarships named for retired or current professors:

  • Cason Berry, Lufkin junior, awarded the Gary Q. Frields Art Scholarship;
  • Abril Jaurequi Gonzalez, Houston junior, awarded the William E. Arscott Art Scholarship;
  • Kailan Counahan, Rusk graduate student, awarded the Gary R. Parker Art Scholarship;
  • Lauren Walker, Fort Worth junior, awarded the Robert Kinsell Art Scholarship; and
  • Victor Gurrola, Cedar Hill junior, awarded the Charles D. Jones Art Scholarship.
