NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Sciences and Mathematics will host the STEM Business and Industry Speaker Series from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Math Building, Lecture Hall 101.
The event aims to connect students to STEM professionals, enabling them to learn from leaders in their field as well as other successful STEM students.
James Dickerson, retired senior managing counsel with Dow Chemical Company and former SFA regent, will speak about the emerging opportunities in STEM fields.
“Using my life’s path as an example, I would like to help students envision STEM career options that they may not have considered,” Dickerson said. “Beyond research and teaching, there are an exceptionally broad variety of careers that can allow them to help improve the world and provide a nice living for them and their families.”
SFA biochemistry senior Carmel Tovar will discuss her decision to attend the university and her passion for science.
“I hope my presentation is informative and inspirational to my fellow students who are pursuing a career in STEM,” Tovar said.
The event is free and open to all majors.
“The STEM Business and Industry Speaker Series provides a unique opportunity for students to interact with a highly talented, successful STEM professional and a dedicated, ambitious STEM major,” said Dr. Kimberly M. Childs, dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics. “This interactive professional dialogue creates a platform for discussion between SFA students and the STEM workforce as students prepare for their future in an evolving high-tech society.”
