Kindermusik Adventure Camps coming in August

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and the Music Preparatory Division will once again offer the popular Kindermusik Adventure Camps this August for children age newborn through 7 years.

The camp classes, which run Aug. 4 through 8, will be held in the Prep Performance Hall of the Music Prep House, located at 3028 Raguet St. Each class has a different theme and is age appropriate, according to Pat Barnett, director of the Music Preparatory Division of the SFA School of Music.

"Peekaboo, I Love You!" is for newborns to 18 months. More than just a curious story, Mother Goose games like peekaboo help babies understand language, Barnett said. In this camp, uncover more ways to say "I love you" using American Sign Language, soap bubbles and parent-baby dances. The class is from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuition is $90. Parents or caregivers attend the class.

"Creatures in My Backyard!" is for children 18 months to 3 years. Give children something to sing about in their own backyards. Be the flower from the "seed's" perspective. Run and jump in rain puddles made from hulahoops. Shoo real flies and sing "Shoo Fly." The class is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuition is $120. Parents or caregivers attend the class.

"Confetti Days!" is for children 3 to 5 years. Throw a party every day. Ride a carousel inside the classroom. Play a balancing game and walk on a web of ropes. Do a musical move and freeze. Learn colors and sing the Spanish song "DeColures," "Pop, Goes the Weasel" and "Looby Loo." The class is from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuition is $130.

"Tell Me A Tale" is for children 5 to 7 years. Through storytelling, children develop an early awareness of rhythm, movement, singing and drama. Each lesson features a new tale from around the world, explored through multi-instrument and multi-cultural elements. It is an around-the-imagination adventure of the greatest stories from Europe, Malaysia, South Africa and more, according to Barnett. The class is from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tuition is $140.

Home materials are included with each class. Deadline to register is July 18.
