SFA's Choral Union, Women's Choir to perform concert

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Choral Union and Women's Choir in concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Under the direction of Dr. Tod W. Fish, visiting assistant professor and the new associate director of choral activities at SFA, the choirs will perform the music of Giuseppe Verdi and Benjamin Britten.

"It is the 200th birthday of Verdi and the 100th birthday of Britten this year," Fish said. "The Women's Choir will perform a Britten piece, and the Choral Union a Verdi opera chorus."

Choral Union will sing "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" from "Nabucco" and the Women's Choir will sing "Deo Gracias" from "Ceremony of Carols."

The concert will be Fish's debut as director of the Choral Union and Women's Choir. He joined the SFA choral faculty this fall after a successful 13-year career as a high school and middle school choral director. While teaching in Seguin, Round Rock and Lubbock, his choirs earned numerous awards and significantly increased course enrollment, and he saw several of his students pursue careers in the music field.

This performance of the Choral Union and Women's Choir is part of the School of Music's Concert Series.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3 for students. For tickets or more information, please visit www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
