NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and the Cole Performing Arts Series will present Angela McCuiston performing a guest flute recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
McCuiston will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla and Ian Clarke, among others.
Winner of the 2007 NFA Piccolo Masterclass and an avid performer, McCuiston is assistant principal/piccolo of Sinfonia Gulf Coast of Destin and a member of the 129th Army Band in Nashville, Tenn., and she just completed her final season as principal flute/piccolo with the Panama City Pops Orchestra in Panama City, Fla.
A certified personal trainer and corrective exercise specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, she has studied Alexander Technique, Barbara Conable's "What Every Musician Needs to Know About the Body" Body Mapping Class and Eva Amsler's classes in Dynamic Integration. As a trainer, and in addition to providing personal strength training with clients, she also teaches classes in foam rolling and a beginner's boot camp. Residing in Nashville, McCuiston travels actively to give her workshops and presentations, most notably presenting recently at the National Flute Association Conventions in Las Vegas, Nev., and Charlotte, N.C.

In addition to her concert on Wednesday night, McCuiston will present a flute masterclass at 1 p.m. Wednesday, a seminar on injury prevention for musicians at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Band Hall, and a discussion about instrumental military performance at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Music Recital Hall.
