Logan named SFA student regent

Matthew L. Logan

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Matthew L. Logan of Mansfield has been appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to serve as student regent for Stephen F. Austin State University during the 2013-14 academic year.

Logan is pursuing a bachelor's degree in hospitality at SFA. He previously served as a member of the Freshmen Leadership Academy, event coordinator for the Student Activities Association, an orientation leader, night manager at the Baker Pattillo Student Center and a lead Jack Walker providing campus tours to prospective students.

"I applied to be the SFA student regent because I want to have the opportunity to voice the opinions of the students at my university," said Logan, a 2011 graduate of Mansfield High School. "Through my involvement at SFA, I have had the opportunity to get to know a wide variety of diverse students on campus. As the student representative on the board, I look forward to voicing those students' opinions in an efficient, appropriate manner."

Logan is planning to graduate in May 2014 and says he hopes to continue serving SFA in a professional role, helping recruit new students to the university.

"I enjoy event planning, public speaking, presentations and providing exceptional customer service," he said. "I have attended the Collegiate Information Visitors Services Association twice within the past year and fell in love with the idea of recruiting students to my institution as part of the professional staff."

Logan recently traveled to Austin to receive training for his new role as student regent. His first official duty will be attending the quarterly meeting of the SFA Board of Regents July 15-16.
