NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty will be featured in two separate recitals this week as part of the Cole Performing Arts Series. Both recitals will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Cole Concert Hall.
On Tuesday, Feb. 21, collaborative pianist Geneva Fung will perform with nine of her colleagues in "Geneva Fung and Friends," a recital designed to promote chamber music written for piano and larger ensembles, Fung explained.
Joining Fung for Gordon Jacob's Sextet in B flat Major for Wind Quintet and Piano, Op. 6 will be members of the Stone Fort Wind Quintet-Christina Guenther (flute), John W. Goodall (oboe), Christopher Ayer (clarinet), Charles Gavin (horn) and Susan Nelson (bassoon).
Colleagues performing Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Septet No. 2 in C Major, Op. 114 "The Military" with Fung will be Guenther, Ayer, Gary Wurtz (trumpet), Jennifer Dalmas (violin), Evgeni Raychev (cello) and Eric Fisher (bass).
On Thursday, Feb. 23, Scott Harris, associate professor of percussion, will present "Nothing But Drums II," a recital featuring ethnic percussion and showcasing instruments and styles from Africa, the Middle East, South America and Europe.
Harris will perform several solo works and then be joined by Nathan Nabb, SFA associate professor of saxophone, for "Mixed Music" by Eckhart Kopetski and by the SFA Percussion Ensemble for Anthony Di Sanza's "Concerto for Darabukka."
A highlight of the program will be a set of Spanish songs written by Juan Carlos Ureña, SFA assistant professor of modern languages. Joining Harris and Ureña for these songs will be Jeana Paul-Ureña, chair of the SFA Department of Modern Languages; and J.D. Salas, assistant professor of tuba.
Both recitals are joint presentations of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. The Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Drive.

SFA faculty to perform chamber music and percussion recitals
