Nacogdoches Naturally family outdoor adventure is all about trees

Ivan Blanco expresses his appreciation for trees at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center. Nacogdoches Naturally will host "All About Trees" from 9 a.m. until noon Sept. 22.

Nacogdoches Naturally Family Outdoor Adventure will provide an opportunity to learn about forest products at "All About Trees" from 9 a.m. until noon Sept. 22 at the Stephen F. Austin State University Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. Participants will learn the benefits trees provide and will receive instruction in identifying trees commonly found in the East Texas area.

"On this first day of fall, families will be treated to a variety of fun learning activities dedicated to our friends, the trees," says Kerry Lemon, project director of Nacogdoches Naturally. "The SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center is the perfect setting for children and their parents to discover the wonderful gifts of the trees. We will play games, hike the trails, read stories, create leaf art, and measure trees as we explore what trees do for us."

Nacogdoches Naturally Family Outdoor Adventures is a project sponsored by the SFA Gardens and funded through a More Kids in the Woods grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Activities are designed to cultivate outdoor skills and an awareness of outdoor education with the goal of families developing a lifetime enjoyment in the natural world. Programs are family friendly and appropriate for all ages.

Cost for the event is $10 per family. The registration deadline for the event is Thursday, Sept. 20.
