UNT trumpeter to present guest recital at SFA


John Holt, associate professor of trumpet at the University of North Texas, will perform a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - John Holt, associate professor of trumpet at the University of North Texas, will perform a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Collaborating with Holt will be pianist Ron Petti, SFA director of accompanying. The duo will perform a program that includes Alexander Arutunian's "Concerto," Kent Kennan's "Sonata for Trumpet" and Giuseppe Tartini's "Concerto in Re."

In addition to teaching trumpet, Holt serves as the chair of instrumental studies at UNT and is the principal trumpet with the Dallas Opera.

He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras throughout the United States and Europe. Committed to the advancement of contemporary chamber music in performance, recordings and education, Holt has commissioned, premiered and recorded numerous works since 2003.

He has recorded six solo compact disks on the Crystal Records label and appears on numerous recordings with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Opera Orchestra and Voices of Change.

While on campus, Holt will give a master class to SFA trumpet students.

The recital is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music and is part of the 2011-2012 Cole Performing Arts Series. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Drive.
