NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Arthur Kopit's "Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. All performances are in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.
This absurdist full-length play, set in a hotel suite in Havana, follows a smothering mother and her son, who has lost all sense of acceptable social interaction, explained Austin Senior Kelsey McMillan, the play's director.
"When a young woman enters the scene and attempts to rip the stunted, stuttering stifled young man from the prison his mother has created for him, things move from bad to worse," McMillan continued. The play is recommended for mature audiences.
The roles of the mother, son and young woman are played by Dallas senior Margaret Lewis, Corpus Christi junior Kory Pullam and Dallas senior Rosie Kolbo, respectively.
Other cast members are San Antonio senior Marcos Rodriguez; Corrigan junior Joel Lambright; Benbrook sophomore Delia Owens; and freshmen Jennifer Bush of Edgewood and Laura McFeeters of Mesquite. Aeric Hansen, Maypearl senior, serves as stage manager.
Previously at SFA McMillan directed "The Lost Girl" and "Old Saybrook" and assistant directed "The Weir." She appeared in "Woyzeck" and designed the hair and makeup for "Bad Boy Nietzsche," "Young Lady of Property," "Tone Clusters" and "The Other Son."
