NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As a part of its monthly independent film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Helvetica" at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at The Cole Art Center @ the Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

Gary Hustwit's documentary about typography, graphic design and global visual culture invites the viewer to take a second look at the thousands of words we see every day and includes interviews with some of the most illustrious and innovative names in the graphic design world.

"Helvetica" had its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March 2007, the same year the popular typeface for which the film is named celebrated its 50th anniversary. In 2008 the film was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in the Truer than Fiction category and was broadcast on PBS as part of the Emmy Award-winning series "Independent Lens" series.
