NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS- The Stone Fort Wind Quintet, a faculty ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
The concert, titled "Stone Fort Wind Quintet and Friends," will feature the regular ensemble members--Christina Guenther (flute), John W. Goodall (oboe), Christopher Ayer (clarinet), Susan Nelson (bassoon) and Charles Gavin (horn)--as well three other SFA music faculty: Fred J. Allen (bass clarinet), Nathan Nabb (saxophone) and Gary Wurtz (trumpet).
"The Stone Fort Quintet is thrilled to be performing with three of our colleagues on this collaborative chamber music concert," said Guenther.
Wurtz and Allen will join the quintet for the concert's opening piece, Paul Hindemith's "Septett für Blasinstrumente." The quintet and Nabb will then perform Pierre Max Dubois' "Sinfonia de Camera pour Sextuor a vent."
"We will close the concert with the very fun Latin-based 'Suite Cantabile' for woodwind quintet by Bill Douglas," said Guenther.
The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music and is a part of the Cole Performing Arts Series. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.
