SFA's '12 x 12' offers original art at bargain prices

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Community members attending the "12 x 12" fund-raiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will have the opportunity to purchase some great art at a bargain price, according to Christian Cutler, director of galleries at Stephen F. Austin State University.

In preparation for the scholarship fund-raiser, over 50 artists, including SFA art faculty, alumni and graduate students; nationally known artists; and community members, created original artworks on 12-inch-square art boards. These are currently on display at The Cole Art Center, located at 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

At the closing party on Saturday, these pieces will be available on a first-come, first served basis for $100 each, Cutler said. "The doors open at 6 p.m. sharp!"

Anyone who does not want to risk "losing" a piece of art to a quicker buyer can take advantage of the pre-sale going on through Friday, July 9, Cutler explained. Each piece will sell for $250 during this time. The Cole Art Center will be open 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Regardless of when a piece is purchased, the creator's name will not be revealed until the sale is final.

"This unique event promises to be a fun way to raise funds for SFA visual art scholarships," Cutler said. The event is sponsored by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131.
