NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University's Orchestra of the Pines will present its "Romantic Affairs" concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. The concert was originally scheduled for Friday, Nov. 19.
Featured soloist for the evening will be Susan Nelson, SFA adjunct faculty, performing Carl Maria von Weber's "Concerto for bassoon and orchestra." The program also includes Pulcinella Suite" by Igor Stravinsky and "Suite from 'Pélleas et Mélisande,' Opus 80" by Gabriel Fauré.
Nelson, who joined the SFA faculty in August, is active as a performer, teacher and clinician. She has performed with the annual Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria, as well as the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, Helena Symphony, Toledo Symphony Orchestra and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.
She has served as the principal bassoon in the Great Falls Symphony and was a member of the Chinook Winds Quintet in Great Falls, Mont. While teaching at Adrian College in Michigan, she performed with the Adrian Symphony Orchestra, and with the Heidelberg Faculty Woodwind Quintet while teaching at Heidelberg College in Ohio.
The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. It is sponsored in part by Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital and the Wedgeworth-Wright Endowment for the Arts.
