NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band of Stephen F. Austin State University will present a joint concert, "Travelogues," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

"The program will take the audience on a musical journey to locales such as the Everglades, Paris and Stonehenge," said Brett A. Richardson, SFA assistant director of bands and the conductor of the Symphonic Band.

Richardson's band will open the concert with Norman Dello Joio's "Scenes from the Louvre" and then perform Michael Daugherty's "Alligator Alley," which was inspired by the stretch of Interstate 75 between Naples and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., that crosses Everglades National Park.

The Symphonic Band will close its part of the program with Robert Sheldon's "Metroplex: Three Postcards from Manhattan."

"This fabulous new work is a musical portrait of the varied environments found within the 'Big Apple,' Richardson explained.

Under the direction of Dr. David W. Campo, SFA associate director of bands, the Wind Symphony will open the second half of the concert with Ron Nelson's "Sonoran Desert Holiday," and graduate student Corey Daniel will then guest conduct Anthony Suter's "Dancing at Stonehenge."

Also included on the Wind Symphony's program are Martin Ellerby's "Paris Sketches," a multi-movement work that pays tribute to numerous parts of the city, and "Niagara Falls," a piece that its composer, Michael Daugherty, describes as "a 10-minute musical ride over the Niagara River with an occasional stop at a haunted house or wax museum along the way."

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Turner Auditorium is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.
