NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Kristin Hayes in a guest flute recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, in the Music Recital Hall of the Wright Music Building.
Hayes and Geneva Fung, SFA accompanist, will perform a variety of works, including C.P.E. Bach's "Hamburger Sonata for flute and piano," Ian Dicke's "Chapter One, Part One for flute and electronics," and Charles DeLaney's "Hymn of Pan," which was inspired by Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem of the same title.
Hayes is a freelance flutist and music educator living in San Antonio. She currently works for the Northside and North East Independent School Districts in San Antonio and teaches at Studio 88 Music.
Prior to moving to San Antonio, Hayes lived in Tallahassee, Fla., where she was pursuing her Doctorate of Music in flute performance at Florida State University. She earned her bachelor's degree from Tennessee Technological University and her Master of Music from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
An active performer and clinician, Hayes has performed as a soloist and collaborator at various festivals and conventions, including the National Flute Association Convention, Florida Flute Association Convention and Florida State University's New Music Festival. She has also performed as a featured soloist and held master classes at several universities.
