NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for a ceramics class offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main Street in downtown Nacogdoches as part of the Creative Art Saturday program.
Under the guidance of and SFA Assistant Professor Marsha Blount and art education majors, participants will construct ceramic bowls that will be used in conjunction with Bowls of Hope, the annual charity drive benefiting H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Eat).
The bowls will be given away at the Bowls of Hope Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Hotel Fredonia. Each person who purchases a $10 ticket to the dinner will receive a ceramic bowl handmade by children participating in the project and a dinner of soup, bread and a drink, provided by the hotel.
Registration for the ceramic class is $5 and covers the cost of the materials. Parents may pre-register at The Cole Art Center during normal hours (12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday) or by e-mailing Blount at blountmarsh@sfasu.edu.
Class size is limited to 20.
"We ask that parents escort the children to and from the classroom that is on the second floor of the center," Blount said. "Parents are also welcome, but not required, to stay."
