Guest saxophonist to perform at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Paul Forsyth, assistant professor at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., will present a guest saxophone recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Cole Concert Hall. Joining him will be pianist Elena Kuroda, also of NSU.

Forsyth is visiting SFA as part of an exchange between him and Brian Utley, SFA associate professor of saxophone. In addition to his recital, Forsyth will present a master class to SFA saxophone students, just as Utley did for NSU students in October.

Included on Forsyth's program will be Warren Benson's "Aeolian Song," Joan Tower's "Wings" and John Williams' "Escapades," a suite from the movie "Catch Me If You Can."

Forsyth received both his doctoral and master's degrees in saxophone performance from Michigan State University and his bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee.

As a member of the Three Reeds Duo, the Rasa Quartet, and as a concert soloist, Forsyth has performed on recitals and taught master classes at numerous schools, conferences and competitions throughout the United States. He has also performed with the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra, East Tennessee Jazz Orchestra and Great Lakes Saxophone Quartet.

The recital is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
