Four Collegiate Spirit Teams To Perform Friday at SFA

Competition cheer routines by the Stephen F. Austin State University Spirit Teams and squads from three other schools will be exhibited at 7 p.m. Friday in the Shelton Gym.

In addition to the SFA teams, Sam Houston State University, Trinity Valley Community College, Navarro Junior College and Crockett High School squads will perform their routines for the Daytona Nationals.

"This is a chance for the squads to show people on campus and in the community what we're all about," said Michael Preston, SFA Spirit Teams adviser. "Not a lot of people get to see the routines, and we want to show off what we do to those who support us year-round."

Lead by coaching staff, Trish O'Conner, cheerleading teams, and T.J. Maple, dance team, the SFA teams will leave Monday for Daytona and compete Thursday through Saturday for a national championship. SFA's Large Co-Ed team has an opportunity to win its seventh straight National Championship, and according to Preston, the Dance Team and Small Co-Ed teams have their best chance in years to join them.

The event tomorrow is free for all students, faculty and staff and $5 for the general public. Doors will open at 6 p.m. For more information, call the Office of Student Life at (936) 468-1018.
