SFA to present screening of 'Who Killed the Electric Car?'

The SFA School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free one-night film screening of "Who Killed the Electric Car?" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Chris Paine's 92-minute documentary chronicles the life and mysterious death of the GM EV1, the electric car General Motors developed in 1996 in response to California's Zero Emissions Mandate.

According to the director, he first wanted to share the "amazing experience of driving an electric car." However, when the cars began being removed from the road, he said he knew they had better start shooting. "What we discovered was a lot more than a story about a car," Paine said.

Martin Sheen narrates the film that includes interviews with automakers, legislators, engineers and consumers. The film was shown at both the Sundance and Tribeca film festivals in 2006 and is rated PG for brief mild language.

The Cole Art Center is located at 329 E. Main St. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131.
