SFA jazz bands present joint concert


SFA jazz students, under the direction of Deb Scott, perform during a concert. SFA's two jazz ensembles, the Swingin' Axes and the Swingin' Aces, will present their season-opening concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University's jazz bands, The Swingin' Axes and the Swingin' Aces, will present a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

The Swingin' Aces will open the concert with a program that includes Sammy Nestico's arrangement of "I'm Beginning to See the Light."

"It's great to be back working with the Swingin' Aces after a semester-long hiatus," said director Deb Scott, SFA assistant professor of music. "We've got a great band this fall that's really beginning to swing."

Under the direction of Gary Wurtz, SFA assistant professor of music, the Swingin' Axes will present music by composers such as Gordon Goodwin, Pat Metheny and Bill Holman.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music.
