A faculty member at Stephen F. Austin State University has been named executive director of the East Texas Historical Association, one of the largest regional historical associations in the nation.
Dr. Scott Sosebee, an assistant professor of history at SFA, replaces Dr. Archie McDonald, who led the group for 37 years and saw its membership increase to more than 700. McDonald recently accepted a new position with SFA as community liaison.
Sosebee joined the SFA faculty in September 2006. He earned a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in 2004, where he also served as a visiting assistant professor.
The East Texas Historical Association expects its growth and vitality to continue under new leadership, according to Sosebee.
"The association's plans for the future include greater publication ventures, continuing its community outreach mission through symposia, a revived and restructured 'All Things Historical' newspaper column, annual meetings, and regional gatherings," Sosebee said. "We invite all who have an interest in preserving and maintaining East Texas' unique heritage to become a part of the association and help continue and grow and strengthen the organization's strong commitment to bringing recognition to and recording the history of East Texas."
