NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Choral Union and Women's Choir will present a joint concert, "Mozart, Brahms and More!" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Cole Concert Hall.
The Choral Union and guest soprano Debbie Berry, SFA vocal instructor, will open the concert with W.A. Mozart's "Regina Coeli, K. 127."
"We are pleased to have Debbie perform this virtuoso solo which was written for Maria Magdalena Haydn, the noted Salzburg court singer and wife of Johann Michael Haydn," said David Howard, associate director of choral activities at SFA and the director of both the Choral Union and Women's Choir.
The Women's Choir and harpist Mollie Marcuson will then present the first three songs of the "Vier Gesänge für Frauenchor, Op. 17," by Johannes Brahms, who was considered by many of his contemporaries to be the greatest choral composer of their time, explained Howard.
Jennifer Lewis, Kingwood graduate student, will guest conduct the Women's Choir in performing James Mulholland's "Life Has Loveliness to Sell," and Ryan Smith, Waxahachie graduate student, will guest conduct the Choral Union's presentation of John Wilbye's "Adieu, Sweet Amaryllis."
The Choral Union is an auditioned mixed chorus of 75 music and non-music majors, and the Women's Choir is a 25-voice ensemble open to women of all majors.
Cole Concert Hall is located at 2210 Alumni Dr. on the SFA campus.
