Welcome to the Division of
Multidisciplinary Programs

Do you find that traditional degree programs do not align with your professional and educational goals? Are you seeking a degree that emphasizes interdisciplinary knowledge? Are you interested enhancing your critical and abstract thinking through a philosophy degree? Our multidisciplinary programs are ideal for students who want a more flexible and customized learning experience.

We offer a variety of culturally and socially relevant minors that pair well with almost any major you choose.

LUMBERJACK SPOTLIGHT

  • PHILOSOPHY FOUNDATION HELPS PAVE THE WAY.

Renée Cleghorn's career dreams are becoming a reality thanks to SFA's philosophy program. Cleghorn has recently been accepted into Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, where she will earn her Master of Divinity and Master of Philosophy, in addition to becoming ordained as a Disciples of Christ minister. She then intends to pursue a doctoral degree in either environmental or medical ethics, with the goal of becoming a university professor.

Cleghorn intends to pass on the foundational knowledge she has received from SFA — knowledge that has inspired her desire to improve herself and the world around her — to her future students.

MEET OUR STUDENTS

  • Ethan Fatheree

    Ethan Fatheree, M.I.S. student

“The Master of Interdisciplinary Studies program has allowed me to combine my love of history with my love of nature, and use that knowledge to pursue careers in historic preservation and interpretation. I was able to gain a diversity of knowledge and skills which allow me to understand the world and its systems more deeply, and prepare me to work in an increasingly interdisciplinary job market.”

  • Jocelyn Moore

    Jocelyn Moore, liberal studies student

“I love how many connections, both among people and disciplines, I've made during my time at SFA. Many relationships I've formed have grown into friendships and collaborative partnerships. Having strong connections across campus helped to cultivate a diverse coalition of students, staff and faculty to pass the recent Green Fee student vote to fund environmental projects at SFA. We were able to connect fields ranging from sustainability, communications, art and more... the training and mindset of my degree  played a meaningful role in helping to turn our campaign into a reality!”

  • Anthony Mahmoud

    Anthony Mahmoud, multidisciplinary studies student

"In a world full of ever changing issues and complex problems, we need creative solutions that one discipline can not solve alone."
