Certified Student Leader program
Much attention has been given lately to the non-technical skills employers are seeking in new hires. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Job Outlook 2014 survey, these include the ability to: work in a team structure; make decisions and solve problems; verbally communicate with persons inside and outside the organization; obtain and process information; create and/or edit written reports; and sell or influence others (NACE 2014).
The College of Forestry and Agriculture strives to develop these skills in its students, with the goal of producing graduates with desirable leadership skills that will improve their job performance. ATCOFA students are encouraged to work toward receiving recognition of their leadership skills via SFA's Certified Student Leader program.
The point of contact within ATCOFA for this program is academic advisor Brandy Bishop- she is available to assist students in developing their cover letters and resumes for submission, as well as discussing opportunities for students to improve these skills over the course of their time at SFA.
To set up a consultation appointment, students can email Brandy, visit FOR 112, or call (936) 468-2940. Students are strongly encouraged to allow Brandy to review their materials before submission for certification.
Once students are prepared to submit their materials for review, they should follow the instructions outlined on the program website.
