"We had little money, but it was the best time of my life. We bought little groceries - we raised everything. Neil Grant was probably the best musician to come out of Shelby County. He is the reason I played a trumpet and he influenced others (John Covington, John Crawford, Kenny Smith) during that time to be better players - none of us could touch him. Your mom (Greg Grant's mother, Jackie Grant) was a pretty good clarinet player. From where we lived we could hear him [Neil Grant] play."
