"This was a nice house, an old house. There was a big hall down the middle that had a staircase in it. The stairs went to the second floor, but that floor wasn't finished. there was a big closet under the stairs where we kept a lot of stuff. There were real glass windows in the front of the house. The windows in the back of the house had solid wood shutters, no class. We had three cisterns because Papa couldn't get a well with good water. There was a smokehouse , chicken house, a barn, a livestock pen, a cow pen for milking, and some sheds. the crepe myrtles were there when I lived in the house a long time ago."
