"The school had an entryway and three or four great big rooms. The rooms had wood burning stoves in them. The big back room had a folding wall or folding doors that made the room into two rooms instead of one. First and second grades were in one room. Third and fourth in one room. Six, seven, eight in one room. Nine and ten in one room. I liked most of my teachers. I was good at algebra and geography. We looked forward to lunch and playing outside. Our mother packed our lunches in a syrup can and we had sausage and biscuits and syrup."
