SFA Board of Regents approves faculty, staff changes

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved faculty and staff changes during its quarterly meeting Monday.
Staff appointments within two academic colleges were approved, including Kathleen Snyder, certification officer and post baccalaureate initial certification program manager in the James I. Perkins College of Education, and Robert Selden, research associate for the Center for Regional Heritage Research in the College of Liberal and Applied Arts.
Appointments within the Department of Athletics include the following: Rand Champion, director of athletic media relations; Clint Conque, head football coach; and William Best, Adam Federle, Jeremy Hammock, Matthew Kubik, Demo Odems III, Terry Mills, Jeremy Moses, Michael Walton and Matt Williamson, assistant football coaches.
Other staff appointments approved Monday include: John Calahan, space coordinator for the Office of Academic Affairs; Jessica Varlack, coordinator of aquatics and safety, and Jessica Waguespack, coordinator of employee wellness, both in Campus Recreation; Johann Cox, director of public safety technology; Lindsey Chronister, assistant director of student engagement; John Fontenot, coordinator of the Veteran Resource Center; and Andrei Bucur, supervisor of the Graphics Shop.
Regents also approved the following changes of status within the Perkins College of Education: Sara Cole, from certification officer and post baccalaureate initial certification program manager to academic adviser, and Julie Stadler, from academic adviser to coordinator of certification and assessment.
Staff changes of status include: Carrie Baker, from coordinator of certificate and degree education to academic adviser in the Nelson Rusche College of Business; and Sherry Williford, from instructor of mass communication to instructor of mass communication and coordinator of curriculum in the College of Liberal and Applied Arts.
Other changes of status at SFA include:
Alumni Affairs - Dale Green, from director of marketing and membership to interim executive director;
Athletics - Kyle Rogers, from athletic media relations assistant to assistant director of athletics media relations;
International Programs - Heather Catton, from international programs specialist to director of international studies;
Marketing Communications - Donna Parish, from marketing communications specialist to assistant director of marketing communications for creative services;
Telecommunications and Networking - Robert Brown, from technical support specialist III to virtual desktop interface administrator I, and James McLaughlin, from technical support specialist III to virtual desktop interface administrator II.
The Board of Regents also approved the following retirements: Melissa McCormack, lead teacher at the SFA Charter School; Sharon Swindell, assistant director of admissions; Robert Choate and Melanie McGill, professors of human services; Vikki Boatman, assistant professor elementary education; and Kathy Springfield, academic adviser in the Perkins College of Education.
During the meeting, the Board of Regents also approved the following:
- A $200,000 increase to the overall marketing initiative budget;
- A fiber optic cable installation project funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation;
- Additional grant awards allocable to Fiscal Year 2014 totaling almost $817,000;
- Contracts for legal services related to Federal Communications Commission matters; health law; real estate; oil, gas, mineral interests and utilities matters; tax law; and wills, trusts and estates; and
- Various policy revisions related to academic and student affairs, building and grounds, and financial affairs.
