Nacogdoches Naturally announces spring, summer events

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Mark your calendar for the upcoming 2014 Family Outdoor Adventures planned through Nacogdoches Naturally, an outdoor education component of the Stephen F. Austin State University Gardens.

"We have numerous outdoor weekend programs scheduled for the spring, beginning in January," said Kerry Lemon, project director for Nacogdoches Naturally. "These events offer opportunities for families to experience a variety of outdoor educational and recreational activities while enjoying the wonder and fun available in nature."

Kicking off the spring, SFA Nacogdoches Naturally will participate in Kid Fish from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Lakeside Park, 4800 Pearl St. in Nacogdoches This event is organized by the city of Nacogdoches' Parks and Recreation Department. Other sponsors include Coastal Conservation Association, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Nacogdoches Bass Club, Head Start, SuddenLink and Stephen F. Austin State University.

Drawings for prizes will be held, and major fishing prizes for ages 0 to 8 years and 9 to 16 years will be awarded at the end of the day. Nacogdoches Naturally will be demonstrating outdoor cooking, as well as offering Junior Angler education through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Angler Education program.

Feb. 8: Vegetable Gardening 101 for the Whole Family
9 a.m. to noon; Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building, 2900 Raguet St.; $20 SFA Gardens members, $25 non-members, $40 family.



Feb. 15: Bird Day
9 a.m. to noon; SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.; $10 family.



March 22: Little Princess Tea Party
10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (two sessions); Ruby Mize Azalea Garden; $25 per person; tickets reserved through Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau.



April 5: Spring Garden Gala Day and Earth Day Celebration
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.; free.



April 26: Farm and Forestry Day
9 a.m. to noon; SFA Beef Farm/Walter C. Todd Agriculture Center; free.
