NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Wind Ensemble will present a concert titled "Sinfonietta" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in W.M. in Turner Auditorium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.Featured work is the "Sinfonietta" by composer and pianist Ingolf Dahl.
"This is one of the true masterworks for concert band," said Fred J. Allen, director of bands. "It is a three movement piece of serious music written in 1961 by a German composer who admired the compositions of Igor Stravinsky."
Two guest conductors will also be featured on the concert. Dr. David W. Campo, associate conductor of bands and director of the Lumberjack Marching Band, will conduct "Gone" by Texas composer Scott McAllister.
"This is a contemplative piece that captures feelings of grief and loss," Campo said.
Graduate student Daniel Curry of Nacogdoches will conduct the band in "Second Connecticut Regiment March" by David Reeves.
Rounding out the concert will be a fanfare for brass and percussion by French composer Florent Schmitt.
"This concert is leading us toward a performance by the SFA Wind Ensemble for the February 2014 convention of the Texas Music Educators Association," Allen said. "Some of the works may end up as part of that concert."
The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Turner Auditorium is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Drive.
