SFA Gardens announces Fall Bulbs Tour
August 26, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University will host a Fall Bulb Tour on Saturday, Sept. 14, featuring the home and gardens of former extension horticulturist turned educator Greg Grant.
The tour will visit Grant's Emanis House dogtrot in Shelby County's rural community of Arcadia near Garrison. Depending on the weather, visitors may see red oxblood lilies (Rhodophiala), several different colors of spider lilies (Lycoris) or assorted rain lilies (Cooperia, Zephyranthes and Habranthus).
The plants' display will depend on the first fall rains, so a grand naturalized bulb display cannot be guaranteed; however, participants can count on touring Grant's old family home with an open breezeway running through it, along with his small cottage garden, chickens and bluebird houses. Guests should dress comfortably for potentially hot weather.
The three-hour tour will begin 9 a.m. when all participants will meet at the SFA Ag building. The cost is $25 for Friends of SFA Gardens members and $30 for non-members. For more information and reservations, contact Elyce Rodewald at (936) 468-1832 or erodewald@sfasu.edu. Other SFA Gardens events and information can be found online at sfagardens.sfasu.edu.
