June 7, 2011
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Tickets are now on sale for the popular children's musical and the classic ghost story that comprise the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's summer season, "Thrills! Chills! Exclamations!"The season will open at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, with "Schoolhouse Rock Live!," a family-friendly musical based on the short educational cartoons that ran on Saturday morning television in the 1970s, '80s and '90s.
"Our 2009 production of 'Schoolhouse Rock Live! Too,' the sequel to this year's offering, drew large crowds, as did our 2008 'Androcles and the Lion' and last year's 'Beauty and the Beast,'" said Scott Shattuck, director of the School of Theatre. "We are proud to offer another fun musical for the entire family this year."
To accommodate children, families and groups, "Schoolhouse Rock Live!" will be presented at three different times of day. Early evening performances at 6:30 are scheduled for Friday, June 24; Saturday, June 25; Wednesday, July 6; and Thursday, July 7.
Afternoon matinees at 2 p.m. will be presented on Thursday, July 7; and Wednesday, July 13. Morning performances at 9:30 a.m. will be offered on Thursday, July 14; and Friday, July 15.
Tim Kelly's "The Uninvited," which depicts the haunting of a seaside house in England, was chosen to provide an entertaining chill in the midst of summer's heat, explained Shattuck.
Based on Dorothy Macardle's novel "Uneasy Freehold," the story follows a brother and sister who discover that their recently purchased dream home has a violent past.
"The Uninvited" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29; Thursday, June 30; Tuesday, July 5; Friday, July 8; and Tuesday, July 12. A 2 p.m. matinee will be offered on Saturday, July 9.
