NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Karen Clarke, a member of the music faculty at Vanderbilt University, will present a guest violin recital at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

Joining Clarke for the performance of Jean-Marie Leclair's "Sonata in D major, Op. 3, No. 6" will be Jennifer Dalmas, SFA associate professor of violin. The duo will also present a selection of Béla Bártok's 44 Violin Duos, which integrate folk music from Eastern Europe.

Pianist Ron Petti, SFA director of accompanying, will join Clarke in performing Johannes Brahms' "Sonata No. 2 in A major, Op. 100," considered by some to be the most lyrical of the three sonatas for violins that Brahms wrote, according to Dalmas.

Clarke will also perform J.S. Bach's "Sonata No. 2 in A minor, BWV 1003."

Clarke joined the violin faculty at Vanderbilt University in 2007 after retiring as professor of music at Florida State University. She is active as a recitalist, chamber musician, orchestral player and period instrument violinist.

She has appeared as soloist with such ensembles as the Buffalo Philharmonic, North Carolina Symphony and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. She has served as concertmaster of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and currently is the concertmaster of the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra and Music City Baroque in Nashville.

Clarke performs frequently with Santa Fe Pro Musica in New Mexico, Conspirare in Austin and at the Victoria (Texas) Bach Festival.

The recital is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music.

Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr. For more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
