Community invited to tour SFA's new Music Prep House
October 1, 2009
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music invites the community to see its new Music Prep House at 3028 Raguet St. from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
The structure, which was formerly owned by the Bomar family, has been renovated to accommodate the Music Preparatory Division that provides private and group music lessons to approximately 200 area children each semester.
Upstairs, there are four teaching areas where Brenda Josephsen teaches Suzuki violin, Linda Parr teaches piano, Alan Scott teaches guitar, and SFA graduate students teach piano.
The bottom floor includes the director's office and workroom, living room, kitchen and reception area, and the Prep Hall.
The large, open spaces can be used for small classes, meetings, performances, festivals and even receptions, explained Parr. "Moving to the house has already given us more options and more opportunities than we had in the Wright Music Building."
Visitors to the Open House will receive a tour of the building and be entertained by students enrolled in the music preparatory classes.
Staff members will also be available to answer any questions about the programs offered.
