NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Ron Petti, Stephen F. Austin State University director of accompanying, will present a faculty harpsichord and piano recital, "Favorites: Old and New," at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

As the event's title indicates, the program includes some of Petti's favorite compositions. "It also features a wide variety of styles and encompasses a broad chronological range of solo keyboard music," Petti continued.

To open the recital, Petti will perform J.S. Bach's "Italian Concerto, BWV 971" on the harpsichord, the instrument for which the piece was originally written. Switching to the piano, he will play works spanning three centuries.

The piano works include J.F. Haydn's "Sonata No. 60 in C Major, Hob. XVI:50," completed in 1795, and Chopin's "Fantaisie in F Minor, Op. 49," a piece from the Romantic period filled with musical grandeur, passion and drama, according to Petti.

Petti will also present Dmitri Kabalevsky's 1945 "Sonata No. 3 in F Major, Op. 46," which contains the two themes of youth and war, and "Mephisto Waltz No. 1" by Franz Liszt, completed in 1862.

Petti joined the SFA music faculty in 1999 after earning his doctorate in piano performance/chamber music and accompanying from Florida State University and his master's and bachelor's degrees in piano performance from Bowling Green University and Heidelberg College, respectively.

As a soloist, Petti has presented master classes in piano, served as an adjudicator in piano competitions, and has concertized throughout the Midwest and Southern states. As a collaborative artist, he maintains a demanding concert schedule with SFA guest artists and faculty and as a member of The Alazan Trio. He can also be heard on the CRS recording label in performances of contemporary chamber works.

The recital is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.
