SFA jazz bands to present season's final concert

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces jazz bands will present their season-closing concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
The Swingin' Aces, directed by SFA Assistant Professor Deb Scott, will open the concert with a program that features Chris Phillips, tuba, on Juan Tizol's "Caravan" and trombonist Andrew Klingsick on George Gershwin's "Summertime."
The Swingin' Axes' portion of the program will include Buddy Rich's classic "Basically Blue" and Pat Metheny's "Have You Heard?" Trumpeter Jerry Gonzalez, Garland graduate student, will be featured on "I Can't Get Started."
"Both bands are looking forward to having fun with the program and ending the semester with a bang," said Gary Wurtz, SFA associate professor of music and the Axes' director.
The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.
